FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why the $5.00 fee?
Sanguine spends three months of each year focused on accepting, reading, and assessing new plays for Project Playwright. The fee offsets operational and administrative costs during this time and allows our continued commitment to new work.
I don't live in New York City. Can I apply?
Yes. Playwrights based anywhere in the world are encouraged to submit their work.
Can I submit more than one play?
Yes. Each play should be submitted individually via the online form. Each individual submission must be accompanied by a submission fee.
Why did you switch to an online form?
Every year the number of Project Playwright submissions we receive grows. The online form and integrated payment method helps us organize all of your information so that we don't miss anything. While we hope the form is easy to use, we are happy to help you navigate the new system. Email us with any questions.
When will I know if my play is chosen for the Festival?
If you are selected as a semi-finalist, you will be contacted in November and asked to provide a current artistic resume, artist statement, and play history statement. You may also be scheduled for a brief interview with the company. Finalists will be notified in mid-December.
What if I make revisions after I submit my play?
While we understand that new works will have growth, Project Playwright is not a development program at this time, as the ultimate goal is to present a fully-produced production. If you are selected as a finalist or the winner, between time of submission and performance, decisions like excerpt selection and revisions to the script, will be made in collaboration between the playwright and Sanguine's artistic staff.
Are your play submission rules set in stone?
We understand that a play is something that cannot necessarily be boxed into specific limitations. We have provided some guidelines, but there are always exceptions. When in doubt, just email us!
